Is a Parenting Group the the Answer for a Stay at Home Mom?
Stay at home mothers; particularly those who are used to working full-time outside of the home in the workforce, will often quickly discover the significant value of having other adults around when they join a parenting group. Parenting groups are becoming more and more common throughout the world as more mothers begin to leave the workforce in order to stay home and take care of their young children.
Water cooler chat and business meetings may seem mundane to some; however a stay at mom will often miss the social contact and gossiping that occurs every single day in a normal office setting. Therefore, parenting groups are one option that may provide the social outlet that the stay at home mom craves.
Depending on the personality and interests of the individual, the type of parenting group that will best blend with her lifestyle may differ. There are many different types of parenting groups which can be affiliated with churches, schools, social groups and even just a group of neighborhood moms who are looking for some companionship.
Parenting groups are not only for moms, there are many groups that will willingly accept dads with open arms as well. There are groups for new moms and stay at home moms, as mentioned above, but there are also many different parenting groups out there to support parents with children of all ages and abilities.
Parents of Special Needs Children
Parents of children with special needs may find that their medical practitioners may refer them to groups designed to support those parenting special needs children. Groups include those for parents of children with physical, mental, learning or emotional disabilities. A support group is an outlet through which the parents can vent frustration, seek assistance and advice and receive positive reinforcement that they are doing a good job as a parent.
Regardless of the situation, most stay at home moms find parenting groups to be a great way to connect with other moms, to introduce their children to new playmates and to enjoy some adult time while the children are occupied. From these parenting groups often stem play dates, birthday parties and even life long friendships. A group of other parents who can relate makes an excellent social circle for the stay at home mom who might otherwise feel lonely, sad and depressed at least in the beginning of the adjustment period.
